Nanny Job Description

Nannies provide modern families with an opportunity to receive help with childcare, looking after one or more children in their parent`s homes. Nannies also manage light housekeeping duties (related to children).



Families looking for a Nanny through our agency usually require at least 3 years of relevant experience in the UK, verifiable references, Paediatric First Aid and CRB/DBS check.

Nanny duties:

Childcare related duties:

  • To look after child(ren) and to ensure that all their emotional & physical needs are met
  • To feed child(ren) fresh and nutritious meals, taking into account any potential or existing allergies or diets; to ensure child(ren) follow a balanced, nutritious and age appropriate diet
  • To organize stimulating activities for child(ren), e.g. age appropriate playgroups, visits to friends (playdates), outings to places of interest (museums, galleries, parks, playgrounds, theme parks, farms), age appropriate arts&crafts (painting, colouring, drawing, play-dough, cutting out, making bracelets), always following the consent and permission of parent(s)
  • To ensure that child(ren) get plenty of exercise in fresh air (in gardens or parks), under close supervision
  • To help child(ren) with their homework and school projects
  • To manage child(ren)’s daily routine – mornings, school runs, evenings etc.
  • To take child(ren) to the doctor/hospital/dentist’s appointments when they are sick, if the parents agree to such procedure; to give child(ren) prescribed medications, with the parent(s) consent, and keeping dosage and times diary later shared with the parent(s)


Household duties:

  • To keep kitchen, play areas, child(ren)’s bedroom(s) and bathroom(s) tidy, and clear items (toys, plates, cutlery, pans etc.) away after use
  • To wash, iron and mend the child(ren)’s clothes
  • To change and wash the child(ren)’s bedding and towels when necessary
  • To purchase clothing for the child(ren) if required by parent(s)

*Salaries depend on the amount of working hours and days in the week, candidates’ experience, qualifications and particular skills.

Nanny has employee rights

As an employee your rights are to:

  • have an employment contract
  • be given payslips
  • not work more than the maximum hours allowed per week
  • be paid at least the market wage or the wage agreed and stated in the employment contract
  • be paid on time (date agreed and stated in the employment contract) by the means agreed and stated in the employment contract
